LGBT is short for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are centers which address the unique needs of these clients. Those who are LGBT can feel alone, not understood, and seen as socially depraved. This may be an extremely tough or painful way to live, and leads many LGBT people to a lifestyle of drug use to numb this pain. Somebody who is LGBT might not feel relaxed within a conventional rehabilitation center amongst people who aren't experiencing the same challenges they may be experiencing of their lives. A LGBT facility provides an environment which can be free of judgment, where LGBT clients can be totally comfortable and safe revealing to their peers and treatment counselors problems which must be resolved to enable them to recover. Treatment counselors within a LGBT rehab will help clients mend relationships with their family members, in the case their loved ones disagree with their sexual preference as is usually the case. This situation is an extremely common trigger for drug abuse, and it is a good example of something which can be resolved in treatment. LGBT clients often would like to be accepted within their lives, and treatment will help them accept themselves and produce confidence in order to lead a healthy life free from alcohol and drugs.
