Individuals who wish to maintain a lot of flexibility in their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab if they need treatment for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab enables the rehab client to participate in rehabilitation services without the commitment you might usually have to consent to in an inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehab center. This doesn't often work in the rehabilitation client's favor however, particularly for those individuals who need to solve substantial substance abuse problems. So although an outpatient rehab may seem like an expedient option, it isn't for everyone. Those who do choose an outpatient rehab will usually take part in meetings and be a part of therapy and treatment services part-time on a daily basis or several days each week. This is very helpful for individuals who have recently completed a more extensive inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or upkeep step, or someone with just a brief history of substance abuse which is usually a really small percentage of clients. For someone with more severe drug abuse and dependency problems, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug treatment programs that provide treatment over a long-term basis will probably be the more effective rehabilitation alternative.
