A group home for someone who has tbeen involved with alcohol and drug abuse is a facility which provides continuous support and assistance for individuals in recovery. A group home is usually for troubled youth, but there are also group homes for individuals with a mental health disorder or who are experiencing behavioral difficulties for example. As an alternative to sending individuals who are being affected by substance abuse or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum or any other similar facility, a group home might help provide an acceptable environment to help sustain stability in their lives and have counsel and support at their fingertips 24/7. Residents inside a group home could be taking part in treatment services whilst in residence, or may be taking steps to get their life setup outside of the group home to enable them to at some point live on their own outside the group home. For instance, a troubled youth who has been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can work on getting their GED or acquire employment. A group home is not really a long-term or permanent option, but it is a feasible short term option for those who want to get their lives back together.
