Offering gender-specific rehab services has proven worthwhile in situations where conventional rehab settings have not meet expectations, including dealing with situations in the women's life that are unique and distressing. Such issues may pertain to sexual abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, or any other significant issues that are specific to women. Studies show that women may also get involved in drug use more easily than men, and so are more vulnerable to sickness as a consequence of addiction problems than males because of this. Due to obligations in their home, women also tend to put off looking for and undergoing treatment, a circumstance which can lead to disaster. Being mindful of this, treatment services for women are created so that a women's needs will be the concentration and priority. Similar to coed centers, drug treatment programs which offer rehabilitation services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a first step. Following this step, counselors help women target both standard and gender specific issues which may have brought on their substance abuse. Women also enjoy the positive support from other female peers, and several programs that offer rehab services to women provide client beds for her children.
