LGBT is short for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are centers which address the unique needs of these clients. People who are LGBT can feel alone, misunderstood, and considered socially depraved. This is sometimes a very hard or painful way to live, and leads many LGBT people to a lifestyle of drug abuse to numb this pain. Somebody that is LGBT might not feel safe inside a traditional rehab center amongst folks who aren't experiencing the same challenges they are experiencing in their lives. A LGBT center offers an environment which is free from judgment, where LGBT clients can be totally comfortable and safe divulging to their peers and rehab counselors problems which must be handled so that they can get better. Rehabilitation counselors within a LGBT rehab will help clients fix relationships with their family members, in the case their family disagree with their sexual preference as is often the case. This situation is an extremely common trigger for abusing drugs, and it is a good example of something which would be handled in treatment. LGBT clients often simply want to be accepted in their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and build confidence so that they can lead a wholesome life clear of drugs and alcohol.
