Individuals who want to maintain a lot of flexibility in their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab when they need treatment for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab will allow for the treatment client to participate in rehab services with the same commitment you might ordinarily have to consent to in an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation center. This doesn't always work in the rehabilitation client's favor however, particularly for those individuals who need to solve significant drug abuse issues. So while an outpatient rehab might appear to be an opportune option, it isn't for everyone. Those that do choose an outpatient rehab will generally attend meetings and take part in counseling and rehabilitation services part-time daily or several days weekly. This is helpful for those who have recently completed a more complete inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or maintenance step, and for someone with just a brief history of substance abuse which is really a very small number of clients. For somebody with more serious addiction and dependency issues, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol treatment programs which offer treatment over a long-term basis will be the more effective rehabilitation option.
