Criminal justice client rehabs are available being a far better option than incarceration or heavy fines for those who have already been convicted of any type of alcohol or drug related crime. As an example, anyone who has been in prison for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs may be eligible for rehabilitation services for problem rather than serving time in prison. The judge could even order that the individual receive treatment, either alone or in addition to other consequences. First-time offenders in particular in many cases are given the ability to go with a criminal justice client rehab as an alternative to other sentencing, and it is highly recommended they benefit from it if it is an alternative. The idea behind criminal justice client rehabs is that it is much more effective and efficient to invest effort and time into treatment than enforcement of other consequences. Much research has been completed to see how effective this process is on recidivism rates, i.e. if the individual returns or not to criminal justice system following treatment. All indicators appear to be quite positive, and criminal justice clients who do experience treatment have a much better chance of remaining out of the judicial system following treatment.
