Being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS may trigger substance abuse, or dangerous sexual conduct as a result of substance abuse may have caused the person to contract the illness. People who have HIV/AIDS, either due to their drug abuse or as a pre-existing problem before their drug use issue, typically require treatment services tailored to satisfy their specific needs and problems. Some of these challenges are physical in nature, because of the fact that substance abusers with HIV/AIDS almost never take care of themselves and take the appropriate medicines they need to maintain their health. As a result, they arrive to rehab in very poor health and this will have to be addressed as a priority while addressing other crucial concerns. Aside from the obvious requirement to offer medical services during rehab, those that have HIV/AIDS also have to address deeper issues which prompted their drug or alcohol use. Often, people have conditions in their lives which are purely environmental which may have triggered them to turn to alcohol or drugs, such as oppressive situations in their lives or negative relationships. These are the concerns which rehab counselors will concentrate on as part of HIV/AIDS rehab services.
