Individuals who want to maintain a lot of flexibility within their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab should they need rehab for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab allows for the rehabilitation client to participate in treatment services with the same commitment one would normally have to agree to within an inpatient or residential alcohol and drug treatment facility. This doesn't always work in the rehab client's favor however, specifically those individuals who need to address significant substance abuse problems. So while an outpatient rehab might appear to be a convenient possibility, it isn't for everyone. Those that decide on an outpatient rehab will ordinarily show up at meetings and take part in counseling and rehab services on a part-time basis daily or several days each week. This is helpful for those who have just completed an even more thorough inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or upkeep step, or for someone with just a short history of drug use which is really a very small number of clients. For someone with more serious addiction and dependency problems, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol treatment centers which provide treatment over a long-term basis are going to be the more effective treatment choice.
