Hearing impaired men and women tend to have an elevated likelihood of drug use issues due to their impairment, and rehab services have to be available which serves their needs. People who are hearing impaired can feel isolated, unmotivated, and be without goals because of their impairment. Some hearing impaired individuals then choose to self medicate with alcohol or drugs to numb this pain and have a temporary release from the emotional and psychological challenges that accompany possessing this handicap in daily life. To start with, detecting a drug and alcohol abuse problem among the hearing impaired can be a challenge, since these individuals may attempt to hide their problem because of social stigmas that come with drug use. However, drug treatment counselors who provide rehabilitation to hearing impaired individuals understand the challenges that these clients face. ASL rehab services are definitely a must, as are rehab services which address the unique challenges that hearing impaired individuals encounter. Group therapy gives a venue for important peer support in order that rehab clients can know they are not on their own, and that there's hope to resolve their challenge with alcohol and drugs. Individual counseling services may be more tailored for each person to ensure that their own personal problems can be addressed in treatment.
