Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be very helpful in situations where traditional treatment facilities have not meet expectations, like coping with situations inside a women's life that are distinctive and painful. Such issues may relate to sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and motherhood, or another significant issues which are specific to women. Research shows that women may also become involved in abusing drugs more readily than men, and so are more vulnerable to illness because of addiction issues than males because of this. Due to duties in their home, women also tend to postpone looking for and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. With this in mind, treatment services for women are created so that a women's needs will be the concentration and priority.
