Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be very useful in situations where conventional rehab settings have fallen short, for example dealing with situations in the women's life which are unique and distressing. Such issues may pertain to sexual abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or any other significant issues that are specific to women. Studies show that women could also get embroiled in drug use more readily than men, and therefore are more vulnerable to illness as a result of addiction problems than males consequently. Due to responsibilities in their home, women also tend to postpone searching for and receiving treatment, a circumstance which can lead to catastrophe. That said, treatment services for women are designed to ensure that a women's needs would be the concentration and priority. Much like coed centers, drug treatment programs which offer treatment solutions to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a starting point. After this step, counselors help women concentrate on both basic and gender specific issues who have brought about their drug or alcohol use. Women also may take advantage of the constructive support from other female peers, and several programs which provide rehab services to women also provide client beds for her children.
