Individuals who want to maintain a lot of flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab should they need treatment for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab will allow for the treatment client to participate in treatment services with the same commitment one would ordinarily have to agree to within an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol treatment center. This doesn't often work in the rehab client's favor however, specifically those clients who need to solve significant drug abuse problems. So although an outpatient rehab might appear to be an expedient option, it isn't for everyone. Those who do decide on an outpatient rehab will generally show up at meetings and take part in therapy and rehab services on a part-time basis daily or a few days a week. This is often helpful for individuals who have just completed a far more extensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or maintenance step, or for someone with only a short history of substance abuse which is usually a very small amount of clients. For an individual with more serious addiction and dependency issues, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs which offer treatment over a long-term basis will probably be the more beneficial rehabilitation choice.
