A group home for someone who has been involved in drug and alcohol abuse is a facility which provides continuous support and assistance for people in recovery. A group home is typically for troubled youth, but there are also group homes for those with a mental health problem or who are experiencing behavioral difficulties for example. As opposed to sending people who are experiencing substance abuse or recovering from substance abuse to an orphanage, asylum and other similar facility, a group home may help offer an acceptable environment to help individuals sustain stability within their lives and still have counsel and support within reach around the clock. People who reside in a group home may be taking part in rehabilitation services during residence, or could be taking measures to get their life set up outside the group home to be able to at one point live independently away from the group home. For example, a troubled youth who may have been in recovery or has recovered from drug abusedrug use can work on getting their GED or acquire employment. A group home is not necessarily a long-term or permanent option, yet it's a practical temporary option for many who are trying to get their lives back together.
