A group home for someone who has been involved in drug abuse is a facility which offers continuous support and help for folks in recovery. A group home is typically for troubled adolescents, but there are also group homes for people with a mental health disorder or who are encountering behavioral problems for example. As opposed to sending people who are being affected by substance abuse or recovering from substance abuse to an orphanage, asylum or any other similar place, a group home can help provide an appropriate environment to help maintain stability inside their lives and still have counsel and assistance within reach around the clock. Residents in the group home might be taking part in rehabilitation services whilst in residence, or could be taking steps to get their life set up outside of the group home to enable them to at some point live independently outside the group home. For example, a troubled youth who may have been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can work on getting their GED or acquire work. A group home is not necessarily a long-term or permanent option, yet it's a practical short term option for those who want to get their lives back together again.
