This can be a very hard or painful way to live, and leads many LGBT individuals to a lifestyle of substance abuse to numb this pain. Someone who is LGBT might not feel safe within a conventional rehab center amongst people who aren't experiencing the same problems they may be experiencing within their lives. A LGBT program offers an environment which can be free of judgment, where LGBT clients can feel totally comfortable and safe revealing to their peers and rehabilitation counselors issues which need to be resolved so that they can recover. Treatment counselors in a LGBT rehab can help clients repair relationships with their loved ones, in case their family disagree with their sexual preference as is generally the case. This situation is an extremely common trigger for drug use, and is a good example of something which could be handled in rehab. LGBT clients often just want to be accepted within their lives, and treatment will help them accept themselves and produce confidence to enable them to lead a wholesome life without any alcohol and drugs.
