Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be beneficial in situations where conventional treatment facilities have not meet expectations, such as coping with situations within a women's life that are unique and painful. Such concerns may have to do with sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and motherhood, and other serious issues which are specific to women. Research has shown that women could also get embroiled in substance abuse more easily than men, and so are more vulnerable to illness as a consequence of addiction problems than males consequently. Because of responsibilities in their home, women also tend to postpone trying to find and receiving treatment, a circumstance which can be a catalyst for disaster. That said, treatment services for women are designed in order that a women's needs are the focus and priority. Just like coed rehabs, alcohol and drug rehab programs which provide rehab services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women focus on both general and gender specific problems which may have brought on their drug abuse. Women also enjoy the constructive support from their female peers, and some programs which offer rehab services to women also provide client beds for their children.
