A group home for anyone who has tbeen involved with drug and alcohol abuse is a facility which offers continuous support and assistance for folks in recovery. A group home is usually for troubled youth, but in addition there are group homes for people with a mental health problem or who are experiencing behavioral trouble for example. As an alternative to sending those who are experiencing substance abuse or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum or another similar place, a group home can help offer an appropriate environment to help maintain stability in their lives and have counsel and support at their fingertips 24/7. People who reside within a group home might be involved in rehabilitation services whilst in residence, or might be taking steps to get their life set up outside of the group home to be able to at some point live independently outside of the group home. For example, a troubled youth who may have been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can work on getting their GED or obtain work. A group home is certainly not a long-term or permanent answer, but it's a viable temporary option for many who are attempting to get their lives back together.
