LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. People who are LGBT can feel alone, misunderstood, and seen as socially unwanted. This can be an extremely tough and painful existence, and leads many LGBT people to a life of drug abuse to numb this pain. Someone who is LGBT might not feel comfortable in a conventional treatment program amongst individuals who aren't experiencing the same challenges they are experiencing in their lives. A LGBT rehab provides an environment that is free of judgment, where LGBT clients can be completely safe and comfortable divulging to their peers and rehabilitation counselors issues which must be handled in order to recover. Treatment counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients fix relationships with their family members, in case their family disagree with their sexual preference as is usually the case. This circumstance is certainly a common trigger for drug abuse, and is an example of something which can be handled in rehab. LGBT clients often would like to be accepted within their lives, and treatment will help them accept themselves and create confidence to be able to lead a wholesome life without any alcohol and drugs.
