Individuals who want to maintain some flexibility within their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab should they need rehab for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab allows for the rehabilitation client to take part in rehabilitation services with the same commitment one would usually have to agree to in an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehab center. This doesn't always work in the treatment client's favor however, specifically those clients who need to solve significant substance abuse problems. So while an outpatient rehab may seem like an opportune possibility, it isn't for everyone. Those that do decide on an outpatient rehab will typically show up at meetings and take part in counseling and rehab services part-time on a daily basis or several days per week. This is often helpful for those who have just completed an even more comprehensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or maintenance step, and for someone with just a brief history of substance abuse which is usually a very small number of clients. For someone with more serious drug abuse and dependency issues, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers which provide rehabilitation on a long-term basis are going to be the more advantageous treatment option.
