LGBT means lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are centers which address the particular needs of these clients. Individuals who are LGBT can often feel alone, not understood, and considered socially depraved. This may be a very difficult or painful existence, and leads many LGBT individuals to a life of drug use to alleviate these feelings. Someone who is LGBT might not feel relaxed in a traditional treatment program amongst individuals who aren't experiencing the same challenges they may be experiencing of their lives. A LGBT program provides an environment which can be free of judgment, where LGBT clients can feel totally comfortable and safe revealing to their peers and rehab counselors problems which must be handled to enable them to recover. Rehab counselors within a LGBT rehab will help clients repair relationships with their loved ones, in the event their loved ones disagree with their sexual preference as is often the case. This situation is certainly a frequent trigger for abusing drugs, and is also a good example of something which could be handled in treatment. LGBT clients often just want to be accepted in their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and build confidence to enable them to lead a healthy life clear of alcohol and drugs.
