A group home for a person who has been involved in drug abuse is a facility which offers continuous support and assistance for those in recovery. A group home is usually for troubled adolescents, but there are also group homes for individuals with a mental health problem or who are experiencing behavioral trouble for example. Rather than sending individuals who are being affected by drug abusedrug use or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum or other similar facility, a group home might help provide an acceptable environment to help maintain stability within their lives and still have counsel and support within reach 24/7. People who reside inside a group home might be involved in treatment services during residence, or might be taking measures to get their life set up outside of the group home to be able to at some point live independently not in the group home. For instance, a troubled youth who's been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can work on getting their GED or acquire employment. A group home is not necessarily a long-term or permanent solution, but it is a practical short term option for many who are trying to get their lives back together again.
