A group home for someone who has been involved in drug abuse is a facility which offers continuous support and help for those in recovery. A group home is ordinarily for troubled youth, but there are also group homes for people with a mental health disorder or who are encountering behavioral problems for example. Instead of sending individuals who are being affected by substance abuse or recovering from substance abuse to an orphanage, asylum and other similar facility, a group home might help provide an appropriate environment to help individuals maintain stability in their lives and have counsel and assistance at their fingertips around the clock. Residents in a group home may be taking part in treatment services during residence, or may be taking actions to get their life set up outside of the group home in order to at one point live on their own outside of the group home. For example, a troubled youth that has been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can try to get their GED or obtain work. A group home is not really a long-term or permanent answer, yet it's a practical short term option for individuals who are attempting to get their lives back together.
