Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be very helpful in circumstances where traditional treatment facilities have not meet expectations, for example coping with situations in a women's life that are unique and distressing. Such concerns may have to do with sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, and other really serious issues that are specific to women. Research shows that women can also become involved in drug use more readily than men, and therefore are more vulnerable to illness because of addiction issues than males as a result. Because of duties in the home, women also tend to put off searching for and undergoing treatment, a situation which can lead to catastrophe. That said, rehabilitation services for women are designed in order that a women's needs are the concentration and priority. Just like coed rehabs, alcohol and drug treatment programs that offer rehabilitation services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women give attention to both basic and gender specific issues who have prompted their drug abuse. Women also utilize the constructive support from other female peers, plus some centers that provide rehab services to women provide client beds for her children.
