Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which provide rehab to address both addiction and mental health issues concurrently. Dual diagnosis is an extremely common situation for people involved in drug and alcohol abuse, as people with mental health disorders often medicate themselves with alcohol and drugs to experience some form of temporary respite from their disorder. In a dual diagnosis rehab, treatment professionals will help individuals through a comprehensive rehabilitation plan all targeted at restoring and stabilizing mental, physical and emotional health as well as dealing with drug abuse concerns. Providing a secure environment is key to ensure that dual diagnosis clients can be at ease and remain free from distraction from things which may compromise their treatment plan and advancement. Rehabilitation counselors will work to spot environmental issues in the client's life such as negative relationships or any other things that should be addressed in order for the individual to remain mentally healthy and abstinen t after they depart dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral treatment that helps them develop more efficient coping methods so they are able to better deal with life situations better after they leave dual diagnosis rehab as opposed to turning to drugs and alcohol as a possible answer.
