Individuals who wish to maintain a lot of flexibility within their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab should they need treatment for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab allows for the rehabilitation client to participate in treatment services without the commitment you might normally have to consent to within an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehab facility. This doesn't always work in the rehabilitation client's favor however, particularly for those clients who need to solve substantial substance abuse issues. So although an outpatient rehab might appear to be a convenient possibility, it isn't for everyone. Those who do choose an outpatient rehab will typically show up at meetings and be a part of therapy and rehab services on a part-time basis every day or a few days per week. This can be very helpful for those who have just completed an even more comprehensive inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or maintenance step, or for someone with only a brief history of drug abuse which is really a really small percentage of clients. For someone with more significant drug abuse and dependency issues, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities that provide rehabilitation on a long-term basis are going to be the more effective treatment choice.
