LGBT is short for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. Individuals who are LGBT can often feel alone, not understood, and viewed as socially depraved. This can be a very difficult or painful way to live, and leads many LGBT individuals to a lifestyle of substance abuse to alleviate this pain. Someone that is LGBT may not feel safe inside a conventional rehabilitation facility amongst folks who aren't experiencing the same challenges they may be experiencing within their lives. A LGBT center offers an environment which can be free from judgment, where LGBT clients can be totally safe and comfortable revealing to their peers and rehab counselors problems which need to be resolved in order to recover. Rehab counselors within a LGBT rehab will help clients mend relationships with their family members, in the case their loved ones disagree with their sexual preference as is often the case. This circumstance is certainly a common trigger for abusing drugs, and it is a good example of a thing that would be handled in rehab. LGBT clients often only want to be accepted within their lives, and rehab will help them accept themselves and produce confidence so that they can lead a wholesome life without any alcohol and drugs.
