Criminal justice client rehabs can be considered like a far better option than incarceration or significant fines for those who have already been convicted of any sort of alcohol or drug related crime. For example, someone who has been in prison for dui of drugs or alcohol may be eligible to obtain treatment services for his or her problem rather than serving time in prison. The judge could even order the individual receive treatment, either alone or in addition to other consequences. First time offenders specifically are often given the ability to go with a criminal justice client rehab as an alternative to other sentencing, and it is well-advised they reap the benefits of it if it is a possibility. The idea behind criminal justice client rehabs is it is much more efficient and effective to invest effort and time into rehabilitation than enforcement of other consequences. Much research has been completed to observe how effective this method is on recidivism rates, i.e. if the criminal justice client returns or not to criminal justice system following rehab. All indicators seem to be quite positive, and criminal justice clients who do experience rehab have a much better potential for remaining out of the system after rehab.
