Dual diagnosis rehabs are facilities which provide treatment to handle both mental health and addiction concerns concurrently. Dual diagnosis is a very prevalent situation for those involved in drug abuse, as those that have mental health disorders often self medicate with drugs and alcohol to experience some form of temporary respite from their disorder. In a dual diagnosis rehab, rehabilitation counselors will help individuals using a detailed rehab plan all directed at restoring and stabilizing mental, physical and emotional health as well as addressing alcohol and drug abuse concerns. Providing a safe and secure setting is key so that dual diagnosis clients can be at ease and remain free from distraction from things that may cut across their treatment plan and advancement. Rehab counselors will continue to work to recognize environmental factors in the client's life such as negative people in their lives or any other things which have to be addressed in order for the person to remain mentally healthy and sober t once they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also reap the benefits of behavioral rehabilitation which will help them develop more efficient coping mechanisms so that they are better able to deal with life circumstances more effectively after they depart dual diagnosis rehab rather than turning to drugs and alcohol as an inferior option.
