Individuals who wish to maintain a certain amount of flexibility in their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab when they need rehabilitation for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab will allow for the treatment client to participate in rehab services without the commitment one would usually have to agree to within an inpatient or residential drug rehabilitation center. This doesn't often work in the rehab client's favor however, particularly for those clients who need to resolve significant drug abuse problems. So although an outpatient rehab may seem like a convenient option, it isn't for everyone. People who do decide on an outpatient rehab will generally take part in meetings and take part in counseling and rehabilitation services on a part-time basis daily or several days a week. This is often helpful for those who have just completed a far more extensive inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or maintenance step, or someone with only a brief history of drug abuse which is really a very small percentage of clients. For an individual with more serious drug abuse and dependency issues, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol treatment centers that provide rehabilitation on a long-term basis will be the more effective rehab option.
