Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be very useful in circumstances where conventional treatment facilities have not meet expectations, for example coping with situations in the women's life that are unique and painful. Such troubles may have to do with sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, or other significant issues that are specific to women. Studies show that women may also get involved in drug use more readily than men, and so are more predisposed to illness because of drug abuse problems than males as a result. Because of obligations in the home, women also tend to put off trying to find and undergoing treatment, a situation which can lead to catastrophe. With this in mind, rehab services for women are created so that a women's needs will be the concentration and priority. Just like coed centers, drug and alcohol treatment facilities which offer rehab services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a starting point. After this step, counselors help women focus on both general and gender specific problems who have prompted their drug abuse. Women also benefit from the constructive support from their female peers, and several facilities that provide rehabilitation services to women also provide client beds for her children.
