Criminal justice client rehabs are available as a far better option than incarceration or heavy fines for many who have already been convicted of any sort of alcohol or drug related crime. By way of example, someone who has been in prison for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol may qualify to get rehab services for his or her problem rather than serving time in prison. The judge could even order that the individual receive rehabilitation, either alone or together with other consequences. First time offenders in particular are often given the chance to go with a criminal justice client rehab as an alternative to other sentencing, and it is highly recommended that they take advantage of it when it is a choice. The idea behind criminal justice client rehabs is that it is far more efficient and effective to invest commitment into treatment than enforcement of other consequences. Much research has been carried out to discover how effective this approach is on recidivism rates, i.e. if the individual returns or not to criminal justice system following rehab. All indicators seem quite positive, and criminal justice clients that do experience rehab have a better chance of remaining out of the judicial system after rehabilitation.
