A group home for anyone who has been involved in drug and alcohol abuse is a facility which offers continual support and help for people in recovery. A group home is ordinarily for troubled youth, but there are also group homes for people with a mental health disorder or who are experiencing behavioral problems for example. Rather than sending people who are experiencing substance abuse or recovering from substance abuse to an orphanage, asylum or any other similar place, a group home might help provide an acceptable environment to help individuals sustain stability within their lives and have counsel and support at their fingertips 24/7. People who reside in the group home could be involved in rehab services while in residence, or could be taking actions to get their life setup outside the group home to enable them to at one point live independently not in the group home. For example, a troubled youth who's been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can work on getting their GED or acquire employment. A group home is certainly not a long-term or permanent answer, but it is a practical short-term option for individuals who are trying to get their lives back together.
