LGBT is short for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are centers which address the unique needs of these clients. Individuals who are LGBT can feel alone, misunderstood, and seen as socially unwanted. This is often a very hard and painful existence, and leads many LGBT individuals to a lifestyle of drug use to numb this pain. Somebody that is LGBT may not feel comfortable inside a traditional treatment program amongst people who aren't experiencing the same challenges they may be experiencing within their lives. A LGBT program offers an environment which is totally free of judgment, where LGBT clients can be totally safe and comfortable revealing to their peers and rehab counselors issues which have to be handled in order to recover. Rehabilitation counselors in the LGBT rehab can help clients mend relationships with their family, in the case their family disagree with their sexual choice as is often the case. This situation is certainly a common trigger for drug abuse, which is a good example of an issue that will be resolved in treatment. LGBT clients often would like to be accepted in their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and create confidence to be able to lead a wholesome life free from alcohol and drugs.
