TRICARE is medical health insurance that is provided to folks in the military of the United States. Drug and alcohol use inside the military is much more common than one would think, and the necessity to provide rehab to these individuals is an important priority. TRICARE covers a number of rehabilitation services to address alcohol and drug dependence including detox services, as well as rehabilitation in outpatient, partial hospitalization and inpatient programs. Individuals with TRICARE will naturally have to obtain a prior authorization before taking part in any type of treatment service, which is often arranged using a regional TRICARE representative. If an inpatient program will be the preferred rehab option, TRICARE covers 21 days or one inpatient stay in that center per benefit period which is every 12 months. There are specific limits regarding how long a TRICARE member can stay within an inpatient center that accepts TRICARE, and there is typically a 30 to 45 day window which is covered. TRICARE also covers family therapy which may be very useful, as it could help include loved ones in the healing and recovery process. No person in the military should fight this battle alone, and there are professional rehabilitation counselors standing by to help today.
