Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which deliver rehabilitation to handle both mental health and addiction concerns simultaneously. Dual diagnosis is an extremely common situation for folks involved with substance abuse, as people who have mental health problems frequently self medicate with drugs and alcohol to experience some type of temporary relief from their disorder. In a dual diagnosis rehab, rehab counselors will help men and women using a comprehensive rehab plan all targeted at restoring and stabilizing mental, emotional and physical health while also addressing substance abuse issues. Offering a safe environment is key to ensure dual diagnosis clients can be at ease and remain free from distraction from things that may cut across their program and advancement. Rehab counselors will continue to work to identify environmental issues in the client's life including negative relationships or any other things which have to be addressed in order for the individual to remain mentally healthy and abstinen t when they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also reap the benefits of behavioral rehabilitation which helps them develop more effective coping mechanisms so that they are better able to handle life situations more effectively once they depart dual diagnosis rehab rather than returning to drugs as a possible answer.
