LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the particular needs of these clients. People who are LGBT can feel alone, not understood, and considered socially unwanted. This may be an extremely tough or painful existence, and leads many LGBT individuals to a life of substance abuse to alleviate this pain. Somebody who is LGBT may not feel safe in a conventional treatment facility amongst people who aren't experiencing the same problems they may be experiencing of their lives. A LGBT program provides an environment which can be totally free of judgment, where LGBT clients can feel totally comfortable and safe divulging to their peers and rehabilitation counselors problems which must be resolved so that they can recover. Treatment counselors in a LGBT rehab can help clients repair relationships with their family, in case their family disagree with their sexual choice as is often the case. This situation is an extremely common trigger for abusing drugs, and is a good example of something which would be resolved in treatment. LGBT clients often only want to be accepted within their lives, and rehab will help them accept themselves and build confidence to be able to lead a wholesome life free of alcohol and drugs.
