To begin with, detecting an alcohol and drug abuse problem among the hearing impaired can be a challenge, because these individuals may try to hide their problem due to social stigmas that come with drug use. However, drug and alcohol treatment counselors who provide treatment to hearing impaired individuals understand the challenges that these clients face. ASL rehab services are of course a necessity, as are rehab services which address the particular challenges that hearing impaired individuals encounter. Group therapy offers a forum for important peer support to ensure that rehabilitation clients can know that they are not alone, and that there is hope to resolve their problem with drugs and alcohol. Individual counseling services could be more tailored for each individual so that their particular problems can be handled in rehab.
