Individuals who want to maintain a lot of flexibility within their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab when they need treatment for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab enables the rehabilitation client to take part in rehabilitation services with the same commitment you might normally have to agree to within an inpatient or residential drug rehab facility. This doesn't always work in the rehab client's favor however, particularly for those individuals who need to address substantial drug abuse issues. So even though an outpatient rehab might appear to be a convenient option, it isn't for everybody. People who do decide on an outpatient rehab will typically take part in meetings and be a part of therapy and treatment services on a part-time basis daily or several days per week. This is helpful for individuals who have just completed a much more thorough inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or maintenance step, and for someone with only a short history of drug use which is really a very small percentage of clients. For a person with more severe drug abuse and dependency issues, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehab centers which provide treatment over a long-term basis will probably be the more effective treatment choice.
