Dual diagnosis rehabs are centers which provide rehab to address both mental health and addiction concerns at the same time. Dual diagnosis is a very prevalent circumstance for people involved with drug and alcohol abuse, as people who have mental health disorders frequently self medicate with alcohol and drugs to experience some type of temporary respite from their disorder. In a dual diagnosis rehab, treatment counselors can help men and women using a detailed treatment plan all aimed at restoring and stabilizing mental, physical and emotional health while also dealing with alcohol and drug abuse problems. Offering a secure environment is key so that dual diagnosis clients can be comfortable and remain undistracted from circumstances which could compromise their program and advancement. Treatment counselors will work to recognize environmental factors in the client's life including negative people in their lives or other things that need to be addressed in order for the individual to remain mentally stable and sober t once they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral treatment that helps them develop more effective coping mechanisms so they are better able to handle life circumstances well when they depart dual diagnosis rehab rather than turning to drugs as an inferior option.
