A group home for someone who has been involved in alcohol and drug abuse is a place which provides continuous support and help for people in recovery. A group home is typically for troubled youth, but there are also group homes for individuals with a mental health problem or who are encountering behavioral problems for example. As an alternative to sending individuals who are struggling with drug abusedrug use or recovering from substance abuse to an orphanage, asylum or other similar place, a group home may help offer an appropriate environment to help maintain stability within their lives and still have counsel and support at their fingertips around the clock. Residents within a group home may be taking part in rehabilitation services during residence, or might be taking steps to get their life set up outside of the group home so that they can at some time live independently away from the group home. As an example, a troubled youth who may have been in recovery or has recovered from drug abusedrug use can work on getting their GED or obtain work. A group home is not necessarily a long-term or permanent option, but it's a sensible temporary option for those who are trying to get their lives back together again.
