LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. Those who are LGBT can feel alone, misunderstood, and seen as socially unwanted. This is sometimes a quite challenging and painful way to live, and leads many LGBT people to a life of drug abuse to alleviate this pain. Someone that is LGBT may not feel safe in a traditional rehab program amongst individuals who aren't experiencing the same challenges they may be experiencing in their lives. A LGBT program provides an environment which can be free of judgment, where LGBT clients can be totally comfortable and safe divulging to their peers and rehabilitation counselors issues which need to be resolved to be able to recover. Rehab counselors within a LGBT rehab can help clients repair relationships with their family members, in the case their loved ones disagree with their sexual preference as is often the case. This situation is certainly a frequent trigger for substance abuse, which is an illustration of an issue that would be handled in treatment. LGBT clients often simply want to be accepted in their lives, and treatment will help them accept themselves and create confidence in order to lead a wholesome life clear of drugs and alcohol.
