A group home for a person who has been involved in drug abuse is a place which provides continuous support and assistance for those in recovery. A group home is typically for troubled adolescents, but there are also group homes for individuals with a mental health problem or who are encountering behavioral difficulties for example. As an alternative to sending people who are being affected by substance abuse or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum or other similar place, a group home may help provide an appropriate environment to help individuals maintain stability within their lives and have counsel and assistance within reach 24/7. People who reside within a group home may be getting involved in rehab services while in residence, or could be taking measures to get their life setup outside the group home so that they can at one point live on their own outside of the group home. For instance, a troubled youth that has been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can try to get their GED or acquire employment. A group home is certainly not a long-term or permanent option, however it is a feasible temporary option for those who are attempting to get their lives back together.
