Offering gender-specific treatment services has proven beneficial in circumstances where traditional rehabilitation settings have fallen short, like coping with situations in the women's life which can be unique and traumatic. Such difficulties may pertain to sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, or other significant issues which can be specific to women. Research has revealed that women can also become involved in abusing drugs more readily than men, and so are more predisposed to illness because of addiction issues than males consequently. Because of duties in their home, women also tend to postpone seeking out and receiving treatment, a situation which can lead to catastrophe. With this in mind, rehab services for women are created in order that a women's needs would be the focus and priority. Similar to coed programs, alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers which offer rehabilitation services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women concentrate on both standard and gender-specific concerns which may have prompted their substance abuse. Women also utilize the positive support from their female peers, and a few programs that provide rehabilitation services to women offer client beds for their kids.
