Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be worthwhile in situations where conventional rehab facilities have fallen short, including dealing with situations within a women's life that happen to be distinctive and painful. Such concerns may pertain to sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or another significant issues that are specific to women. Research has shown that women may also get involved in abusing drugs more easily than men, and so are more predisposed to sickness as a result of addiction problems than males as a result. Because of obligations in their home, women also tend to postpone trying to find and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. That said, treatment services for women are created so that a women's needs will be the concentration and priority. Similar to coed centers, drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers which offer treatment services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. Following this step, professionals help women concentrate on both standard and gender-specific concerns who have induced their drug or alcohol use. Women also may take advantage of the positive support from their female peers, and a few facilities which provide rehabilitation services to women also provide client beds for their kids.
