Offering gender-specific rehab services has shown to be worthwhile in circumstances where standard rehabilitation settings have fallen short, including dealing with situations within a women's life which are distinctive and distressing. Such difficulties may have to do with sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, and other significant issues that are specific to women. Research has revealed that women may also get involved in substance abuse more readily than men, and so are more vulnerable to illness as a result of addiction problems than males because of this. Due to obligations in their home, women also tend to put off trying to find and receiving treatment, a circumstance which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. With this in mind, rehab services for women are created so that a women's needs are the concentration and priority. Similar to coed centers, alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs which offer rehab services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a first step. Following this step, counselors help women concentrate on both general and gender-specific concerns who have triggered their drug or alcohol use. Women also may take advantage of the beneficial support from their female peers, and some facilities that provide rehab services to women offer client beds for their young children.
