Individuals who want to maintain a certain amount of flexibility in their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab if they need rehab for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab allows for the treatment client to participate in rehab services without the commitment one would normally have to agree to within an inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehab facility. This doesn't often work in the rehab client's favor however, specifically those clients who need to address substantial substance abuse issues. So even though an outpatient rehab might appear to be a convenient option, it isn't for everyone. People who do decide on an outpatient rehab will ordinarily take part in meetings and take part in counseling and rehab services part-time each day or several days weekly. This is often helpful for many who have recently completed an even more complete inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or maintenance step, and for someone with only a brief history of drug use which is usually a very small percentage of clients. For somebody with more serious addiction and dependency problems, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs which offer rehab over a long-term basis will be the more effective rehabilitation choice.
