Dual diagnosis rehabs are facilities which provide rehab to address both addiction and mental health issues concurrently. Dual diagnosis is a very common circumstance for people involved in drug and alcohol abuse, as individuals with mental health problems often self medicate with drugs and alcohol to experience some kind of temporary respite from their disorder. Within a dual diagnosis rehab, rehab counselors will help people using a comprehensive rehabilitation plan all aimed at restoring and stabilizing mental, emotional and physical health while dealing with alcohol and drug abuse problems. Providing a safe setting is vital so that dual diagnosis clients can be comfortable and remain free from distraction from things which may compromise their program and development. Rehabilitation counselors will continue to work to identify environmental factors in the client's life including negative relationships or other things which need to be addressed in order for the person to stay mentally healthy and abstinen t once they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral rehabilitation which will help them develop far better coping methods so that they are better able to handle life situations more proficiently after they depart dual diagnosis rehab rather than returning to drugs as a possible answer.
