LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are centers which address the unique needs of these clients. Individuals who are LGBT can feel alone, misunderstood, and viewed as socially depraved. This is often a very difficult or painful way to live, and leads many LGBT people to a lifestyle of substance abuse to numb this pain. Someone that is LGBT might not exactly feel safe in a traditional rehabilitation facility amongst people who aren't experiencing the same problems they may be experiencing within their lives. A LGBT center offers an environment which is totally free of judgment, where LGBT clients can be completely safe and comfortable revealing to their peers and rehabilitation counselors problems which need to be handled in order to get well. Rehabilitation counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients mend relationships with their family members, in the event their loved ones disagree with their sexual preference as is generally the case. This situation is an extremely common trigger for abusing drugs, and is an illustration of something which can be resolved in rehabilitation. LGBT clients often would like to be accepted in their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and produce confidence so that they can lead a wholesome life without any alcohol and drugs.
