Individuals who want to maintain a lot of flexibility within their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab whenever they need treatment for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the rehabilitation client to participate in treatment services with the same commitment one would usually have to consent to within an inpatient or residential drug rehabilitation facility. This doesn't often work in the rehab client's favor however, specifically those individuals who need to resolve substantial substance abuse problems. So while an outpatient rehab may seem like an expedient possibility, it isn't for everyone. Those that do choose an outpatient rehab will usually take part in meetings and take part in counseling and rehabilitation services part-time every day or several days each week. This is often helpful for those who have recently completed an even more complete inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or maintenance step, or for someone with just a short history of drug abuse which is really a really small percentage of clients. For a person with more significant drug abuse and dependency problems, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehab centers which offer treatment over a long-term basis are going to be the more effective treatment option.
